The wind whipped up to 55 knots overnight, as predicted, creating 4-5 metres waves on the open sea where we now find ourselves. Unfortunately, the weather along the coast was much worse, so we’ve taken a big loop into th Gulf of Alaska and will get back on track tomorrow.

The ship rolled around a bit in the waves last night leading to a unique sleeping experience. I slept pretty well, Deb not so much. The shower experience in a ‘rock and rolling’ ship was a little challenging as well as I found myself involuntarily walking around the shower. After that, I was starting to feel a bit nauseous, so opted for a plate of fruit for breakfast and an orange juice. I augmented this. with some ginger tablets and anti-nausea drugs, which helped me through the day. Most onboard conversations today revolved around how sick one was.
With the above mentioned treatments improving my demeanour, I caught up on some life-admin and then before we knew it, it was time to eat again. This time the venue was Chartruese which is a French-themed restaurant. Again, we had a window seat and settled in for a nice meal. We both had a delicious French Onion Soup for starters and then I had Salmon while Deb a Leek and Gruyere Tart. I finished with a Pavlova, fruit and ice-cream while Deb had Rocky Road Ice-cream. With the poor sleep last night we had a quiet afternoon in the cabin catching up on some rest.

We thought dinner tonight was at Pacific Rim, an Asian-themed restaurant, but apparently that is tomorrow night. My laptop is still on Australian tIme , so that had confused me. We quickly changed plan and ate at Sette Mari instead. It has an Italian theme and with the generous antipasto platter we really only needed to order a main, which we both had the Veal Scallopine al Masala. Again the food was excellent.

We have finally reached some calmer waters and are expecting better conditions as we head to more protected waters and hopefully for more interesting photo opportunities.

Until tomorrow!
