Today was our last day of traveling, so I’ll close off this blog today. We are spending a few days a Coolum for a bit of relaxation before I go back to work next week. I know it’s not been the usual 3 weeks or so, but I’ve enjoyed the compressed break. I started today with good intentions of getting out for sunrise. I set my alarm for 5:10 (PM not AM)… but woke up at 5:15 anyway, but I did just miss the sunrise. I wasn’t far off though.
I took some more photos north towards Mon Repos and south along Neilsons Beach, Bargara as well as a ‘top down’ over the rocks.
I went back the apartment and caught another hour’s sleep before we returned to the turtle centre at Mon Repos. I had visited Mon Repos as a child and seen turtles nesting, so it was nice to go back and see that the great work by the team there is still going. The centre itself is very educational and once the nesting season kicks off they will only be taking groups of 14 out, rather than the pre-covid numbers of 60. A VIP tour indeed!
We then went into Bundaberg, which I must say was not as I remembered it. The once vibrant shopping strip is now mainly $2 shops. It did leave me wondering about the future of such towns. It still has some beautiful buildings and gardens. As part of our cat-sitting fees we had lunch at the Bargara Brewing Company, so we could pick up some of their ciders. The beers were very good too.
After lunch we left Bundaberg and decided to drop in at Woodgate on the way down to the Sunshine Coast. Woodgate is now much bigger than I remember, but still very scenic, especially from the air.
We arrived a Coolum this evening, where we’ll spend the next few days. We’ve got a great view from our room. There are lots of eating options close by, although the surf club was at COVID capacity, we went to the local pub instead.
Lastly, thanks for following again and until next holiday… have fun!
