Day 7 – Alexandra and the club

So, not a whole lot to report today. We spent the whole day around Alexandra after a slow start. We had the customary New Zealand breakfast, which means I cooked an omelette before heading back to Deb’s uncle’s house for an informal lunch (chicken burgers! YUM) They were busy doing some tile removal works as part of a renovation so we left them to it and took a drive to the local lookout… great views of the local area…

And a bit closer up ….

After the lookout we visited the Shaky Bridge winery. The owner had just arrived back for “Aussie” … thats what they call our homeland over here. He was very helpful and informative and he sold me a fine bottle of his 2011 Pinot Noir.

We went back to ‘town’ and checked out the limited range of shops, and took a photo of ‘The Clock’ before picking up Uncle Ross and heading to ‘The Club’.

Anyway, then it was off to the club for dinner and watching footy. So we settled in and watched the Otaga vs Cantebury game. The pro-Otago crowd were deeply offended by the apparent favouritism to the Cantebury side. As an ambivalent bystander I just saw a grave misunderstanding of the rule. But it got worse… there was the Bledisloe cup game to come. I expected Australia to fare badly in this one, but the locals seemed to indicated that although we’d beaten them once in the last 10 games, (and not once at Eden Park in 30 years) that somehow they were in danger. They showed great excitement at any point scoring moment, (which there were many) while I sat among them accepting my fate. I must say, I do find it amusing how the interpretation of rules is entirely dependent on the team one supports.

Anyway, a solid beating for the Wallabies as expected… We are off to Queenstown tomorrow … so until tomorrow
