Hi all
I just wanted to compile a final post to wrap things up after what was truly a wonderful trip. I also wanted to thank everybody that followed our travels … it made doing the blog a lot of fun, knowing that people were enjoying it.
So I decided to do this as a list of questions and answers:
Q: What was your favourite part of the holiday.
This is a tough question to answer because there were 3 quite different elements to the holiday…. so I’ll cop out and say that Paris, Venice and Provence are all equally ranked … Paris … because it has so many iconic sights, rich history and its own special vibe, Provence because there is another village or beautiful scene around every corner and Venice because of its uniqueness.
Q: What was the best accommodation?
The house in Provence was a clear winner in these stakes. It had more space than we needed (it would accommodate 2 couples comfortably) coupled with the valley views. Afternoon champagne on the terrace is a lasting memory.
Q: What was the best meal ?
Lunch in Goult (Provence) was a stunning 3 course meal at a restaurant in the middle of the village – Le Carrilion – http://www.restaurant-goult.com/
Q: What were the best experiences ?
I think climbing the Eiffel Tower (by elevator), the hot air balloon flight and lastly the second Gondola voyage (the one without my rugby mate).
Deb also added the Les Lumieres show at Les Baux
Q: What worked well ?
The apartments worked really well. Having decent beds and being able to buy food for breakfasts and dinners was helpful. They typically had more room than hotels and were a good retreat at the end of a day.
Apartments were booked through:
Q: What would you do differently ?
- Hire a smaller rental car
- Schedule internal flights earlier in the day to account for the large distances from some airports
- Avoid studio apartments
Q: What other things did you find useful ?
- City Walks iPhone apps. The Full Versions of these are integrated with a map application.
- The apartment owners / agents were all very helpful with sharing local knowledge (supermakets etc..)
- I used a Velocity Pre-paid VISA card which worked well.
- Limiting luggage
- Pre-booking train travel prior to the holiday was quite price effective.
That’s pretty much it for this trip…. We are both happy to answer any specific questions so please get in touch.
Once again, thanks for following and stay tuned for when I next board a plane….
Cheers
Rob
