Wrapping things up with Luxembourg Gardens, Catacombes and Montparnasse

This blog post comes to you from my lounge room back in Brisbane. We made it home early this morning … a slightly late departure from Paris being the only potential issue. We left Paris at 11:10 on Friday night and arrived in Brisbane 6AM Sunday… some 19 hours of actual flying time.

On Friday we’d organised a tour of the Catacombes for 12 O’clock. We had plenty of time to spare so walked to where we had to meet the tour via the Luxembourg Palace Gardens… which was built so the widow of King Henry IV had some where to live.

The Catacombes Tour was interesting. Up until the 1700s much of the limestone used in Paris’ buildings was mined from underneath the city. The problem with this was that areas of the city were sinking and at the same time the cemeteries were filling up. So there was a bright idea to clean and then move the remains of some 6 Miliion people into the tunnels.

One of the miners in the tunnel had his own little secret project going in his spare time!

On our way back tho pick up our bags we stopped in at the Montparnase Building which has a viewing deck on the 54th floor which offers 360 degree views of the city…

And that is about it… As previously promised I will do a final … ‘What we liked and didn’t like’ … but will do that when I am much less jetlagged!
