Last ‘FULL’ day in Paris

Tomorrow night we undertake our long journey home, so this is likely to be the last blog post for a few days. I’ll do the post for the last day… and a bit of a review post (best and worst … that sort of thing next week.)

Anyway, on with today… we woke to our 8AM alarm bells … the first toll of the bells from Notre Dame and went to a local Brasserie … yes that’s what they call them here… and had omelettes and coffee. We went for a little bit of a street wander … and bought some crappy souvenirs for some of our valued colleagues… and of course a French Rugby shirt for me. I took a couple of final photo’s along the Seine …

For the afternoon it was a case of ticking off some of those final things… So we had a yummy lunch at a the Sarah Bernhart Restaurant in Chatelet and then set off to the Rodin Museum. This is a garden which houses all his sculptures that were donated to the government upon his death. The most famous of his works being ‘The Thinker’

The sculptures are set in a garden setting and is well worth a visit.

From there we went across the road to ‘Les Invalides’. This is another amazingly opulent building built by the French Royalty… initially as a hospital for french soldiers. It now is part of the Military Museum and houses the tomb on Napoleon (and a few other notables). The gold on the dome is actual gold leaf and was refreshed in the early 2000’s at a cost of around 300,000 Euros.

And Napoleon’s tomb….

We walked up to Trocadero, which offers good views down to the Eiffel Tower. We had a meat and cheese platter and waited for the sun to go down to get some final photo’s of the Eiffel Tower… Luckily, I was able to catch it with the sparkles going….

Then it was back to the hotel…

Until next time I write something … in a couple of days…
