We started today with our own interpretation of an Italian breakfast … grilled cheese and Proscuitto in the apartment, prior to setting off on foot to start discovering. The apartment is in a good central location, so you can walk to most places. It didn’t take long to find the shopping district… given that most of Milan seems to be about shopping….

In the centre of the shopping area is the Duomo Piazza … which is bordered by the 13th century built Duomo Cathedral, an amazing structure built of marble and granite. So from the outside… it looks like this…

The inside is absolutely stunning… and on a massive scale… The stained glass windows are particularly spectacular. I got Deb to take all the inside photos because they charge you 2 euros to take photos inside… and she takes better photos than me anyway,…

At risk of posting too many photos of the one thing … you can also pay to take a lift to the roof and take some photos from up there. Today was pretty foggy and cloudy so the views weren’t great beyond the cathedral … but we went up anyway… and took lots of rooftop shots

After all that we were pretty hungry so had lunch at on of the restaurants on the square… I was able to buy a pretty decent carbonara. Then it was onto the Hop ON / Hop off bus … A few stops in we stepped off at the Sforza castle. For those who watched the television series ‘The Borgias’ this is a little bit cool … as this was the castle that Caterina Sforza’s sone ends up owning … and the coat of arms from the series is all over the castle.

The castle has a really impressive museum which includes collections of musical instruments, porcelain and ceramics dating back to the 1500s.
Following our tour of the the castle we caught the bus back to the Piazza Duomo and had a wonder through the galleria (expensive shops) and headed back to the apartment on foot… just taking our time to take it in. Milan has many beautiful buildings, although many parts of the city were destroyed in the Second World war.
The Galleria ….

Finally … we bought some pizza for dinner at a restaurant called ‘Pizza OK’. We were told best pizza in Milan… but don’t buy anything else there … it will be crap!
Pizza was very good… I must say!

Alrighty… signing out for another day…
Until tomorrow
Rob
