Slowing down the pace… ( a little)

After all the action of yesterday… we tried our best to sleep in a while this morning… however the sofa bed which is not only short … but relatively uncomfortable saw us up by 8 o’clock. The apartment we have here is a rather basic studio. We found a cheap OJ, Croissant and coffee breakfast in the nearby market place. The markets were a good food market that offered a wide variety of items. They also had a significant flower contingent… but I didn’t have to buy any because I hadn’t done anything wrong…

There was lots of different fruits and vegetables, including some of the biggest pumpkins I’ve ever seen and the usual collection of cheeses, terrines and breads.

We then embarked on another city walk and found most of the ‘must see’ places around town. The Palais de Justice, St Francios Square, Garabaldi Square, the Massena, the Museum of Natural History (a small museum dedicated to this region), Jardin Albert and finally ending up at the Notre Dame Basilica.

And the Notre Dame Basilica…

Following that trek around … we decided that we couldn’t come to Nice and not have lunch at one of the beach cafes… so we settled in for a leisurely lunch watching the world go by. There is an international yacht racing event on… so while being something I would go out of my way to see… it was interesting trying to work out what was going on.

The view from our table … note the beautiful sandy beach!

The yacht racing …

Following the extended lunch… we did some dinner shopping and came back to the apartment. The intention was to head out for drinks a bit later, but a thunderstorm blew in… so we didn’t end up leaving the room… instead just did a bit more planning for tomorrow and the subsequent days.

Until tomorrow

Rob
