Hrm … no sunrise photos this morning. We woke up to a heavy fog … and thought it would be safest (given my limited driving skills on the other side of the road) that we should take a leisurely start to the day and wait for the fog to burn off. Unfortunately… because the sun rises at 7:30 this was quite a silly plan… because as it turned out the fog didn’t really lift until around lunch time…

Anyway… so we hit the road and headed to Merindol for the markets. the road was a tight windy mountain (through more fog) crossing followed by a highway drive. It seems the information we had relating to markets was inaccurate as we only found a sleepy town. (best photo below!)

We did a quick walk around and decided to head to Pertuis instead…. which was reputedly another town with a market on… we arrived to find a big town with lots of traffic… so we decided that was ‘all too hard’ and headed to Lourmarin … a smaller and much more manageable town. There were no markets … but lots of charming shops and a magnificent Chateaux that was originally built in the 13th century … but added to in the 16th century that was well worth the visit.

Upon leaving Lourmarin, it became apparent that there are cyclists that want to ride over mountains and after some ‘hairy’ moments overtaking the peleton … (blind curves etc…) we made our way to Rousillion… another hillside village. Rousillion is quite different due to the significant ochre deposits near the town… hence the reddish rendering on most buildings…
The Ochre cliffs…
And the village of Rousillion…

Then it was back to the house … for drinks on the terrace until sunset… ahhh the view …

Until tomorrow
Rob
