The customary healthy French breakfast kicked off the day… Ham and cheese croissant followed by a jam and cream cheese croissant… with orange juice and coffee. One thing I have learned is that a long black is Australia is known as ‘Cafe Allonge’ here 🙂
Another thing I’ve learned is that the lifts at 229Elizabeth street are not the smallest lifts in the world. The lift in the apartment here is basically a vertical coffin. You can fit one person and some shopping in it although the sign says you can fit 2 people. Here’s me getting in…

Anyway, this morning we jumped on the trusty metro to the Opera House… This is a magnificent building which lends much of it’s history the ‘Phantom of the Opera’. It was designed and built in 1860 by Charles Garnier… no relative of the the King of Shampoo … Alfred Garnier. Here’s a couple of pictures that I took (in difficult light).

And…

Galleries LaFayette is a large French Department store that features all the big brands … and the price tags as well. I looked at some nice watches for 38,000 Euros and some nice sparkly De Beers diamond rings… but the main reason for visiting is the gallery itself.

We finished off the day with a wine tasting which was quite educational. I think I am now getting my head around the fact the the French categorise their wines by region… which dictates what variety the wine is … rather than the Australian model of growing any grape where it will grow and making wine from it.
Just having a glass of said French wine before dinner… the usual assortment of cheeses, pate, terrine and bread… not to mention more desserts!
Until tomorrow
Rob
